We’re hiring! Open Signal’s mission is to nurture the change-making power of community media in service of a just and equitable world. Our staff are a diverse community of teachers, media artists, social activists and nonprofit professionals. We’re building upon the 35-year legacy of Portland Community Media to create a media arts resource unlike anything else in the Pacific Northwest.

The Community Media Education Assistant will join our Community Media team, supporting our network of independent media makers. This position specializes in providing support to instructors during Open Signal classes and programmatic offerings, including equipment setup and breakdown, record keeping, and being available to students in a trauma informed learning environment. This role extends its support to program participants and producers across various aspects of media production, from field equipment use to editing software proficiency. 

This position will play a pivotal role in supporting Open Signal’s youth program by providing trauma informed media education and education support ensuring that youth utilizing the studio and facility achieve success and a positive experience. Through community outreach and by fostering a supportive and resource-rich environment, this position is instrumental in supporting producers and enhancing the quality and diversity of productions.
