Our Updated Community Policy Handbook Is Out Now

September 26, 2023

Open Signal’s newest Community Policy Handbook is live! This handbook is a one-stop reference for all community members on Open Signal’s policies regarding our equipment, facilities and channels. These policies shape how we operate and affect how our community and resources interact. The purpose of our policies is to ensure the most efficient and effective management of resources; to encourage wide participation in media creation; to minimize or eliminate barriers to participation; and to promote equity and inclusiveness in media.

Whether you’re registering for a workshop, checking out equipment, sponsoring a project for broadcast or using our parking lot, this handbook outlines basic expectations and responsibilities — both for community members using resources and on behalf of the organization.

We’ve made some changes to the Community Policy Handbook based on input from community members and staff. These include:

  • The addition of Dressing Room & Green Room, Cohort Application, Facility Rentals, and Project Prohibited Acts policies;
  • More detailed information about canceling reservations;
  • Updated series season timeline and more.

We invite you to read through the updated Handbook below! It’s also available at this link: Community Policy Handbook.

If you have any questions or have a request that is not covered within this document, please reach out to our front desk staff, by emailing info [at] opensignalpdx.org or calling (503) 288-1515.

Please note that some Open Signal practices are subject to change based on organizational capacity, public health guidelines, safety considerations, funding or other factors. Please check with staff for the most up-to-date information on our policies, procedures and practices.

If you are new to the organization or haven’t been in for awhile, consider attending an orientation! Our orientations are the perfect place to meet staff, learn about our programs and policies, and get the lowdown on all the ways you can create media with our support.
