Hands-on training with professional equipment:

Learn the basics of editing with Final Cut Pro X in this three-hour class. This workshop will cover the fundamentals you need to start editing your footage. Manage and import your files, build a library, cut and paste your video and audio together, and add transitions and titles to polish your story’s look.

This class certifies you to check out:

MacBook Pro with Final Cut Pro X, DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Creative Cloud;
Hard drive;
Headphones;
Wireless or wired mouse.

Open Signal’s studios are unique venues for free speech and creative expression — get hands-on, practical training in TV production skills in this 3-session class.

This class certifies you to reserve**:

4 hour blocks of time in Studio A, a 2,000-square-foot space that features Blackmagic cameras and jib, Chroma Green Cyclorama green screen and optional roll-out floor, Ross Xpressions graphics computer, light board, projector, and more;
4 hour blocks of time in Studio B, a 340-square-foot space that features 3 robotic cameras, Chroma Green Cyclorama green screen, Ross Xpressions graphics computer, and more.

We also offer Intro to Studio Motion Graphics with Ross Xpression to further your skills in adding lower thirds, backgrounds, video roll-ins and more to your productions.

** Studio reservations are only available to studio-certified producers who have volunteered on 2 studio productions. Once you have completed the class you will be added to our studio volunteer list.

Start Your Media Education Journey

We offer video and studio production classes in an inclusive group environment to help you learn the essentials and build confidence in your technical and creative abilities. Build professional skills and a network of collaborators from our community of media makers.

Our classes operate on a sliding-scale fee, starting at $45 per session. We offer beginner-level classes that are open to anyone and Producer level courses for Open Signal members who have completed an Orientation.

Producer level classes certify you to check out equipment from our equipment library or book time in our production studios — meaning you can start producing your own content for broadcast on our cable channels or volunteer on community productions!

Use of Open Signal resources (Studio and equipment) is offered at no cost to our members, however we ask that you submit work created with these resources to our cable channels.
