Have an idea for a short film and looking for the push to get you to the finish line? Starting your media journey can feel overwhelming, and the hardest part can be making that first project. Our 6-month Production Cohort will give you hands-on experience with each step of the production process. Take part in trainings, monthly one-on-ones, and weekly work sessions — all building toward a midpoint check-in and final screening.
This opportunity is designed for beginner-level media makers and small teams who want to create video work in a supportive learning environment. It’s especially geared toward folks who have been historically underrepresented in mainstream media.
The Fall 2025 Production Cohort runs from August 21, 2025 to January 16, 2025. Participants must commit to the full program, including attending all scheduled trainings and at least two work sessions per month. Each participant (or team) will complete and submit a 5–15 minute video to be showcased at the final screening on January 24, 2026.
To apply, you must:
- Be an Open Signal member;
- Reside in the Portland Metro area;
- and have recently completed or are registered for our Orientation.
This program is also open to youth ages 14–17. Participants under 16 must attend all trainings and meetings with a guardian. Anyone under 18 must include a guardian in their application, as a guardian is required for equipment checkouts.
