See Our Space Renovations, Feb. 14
January 05, 2017

While you're waiting for Open Signal to re-open again, we thought you might like a sneak peek at how we're transforming our lobby and public spaces.
Our goal is to cultivate a space that feels experimental, non-hierarchical and delightful, facilitating our transformation into a community media center that is more vibrant, community-driven and artist-friendly than ever.
Above you can see the floor plan for the design we're implementing now. It includes a new flexible space for events, screenings, performances and installations; more classroom space so we can increase access to our state-of-the-art media production studios; improved meeting spaces; and private or semi-private creative studios for people to work on projects, alone or in groups.
We've scaled down the size of our front desk so we can add additional computer lab space as well.
This new design will help us efficiently and effectively carry out our core business activities, as well as promoting communication, collaboration and egalitarianism in our public spaces.
This is an initial set of renovations that are mostly intended to make the space more flexible and open to experimentation. And we WILL be experimenting. Over the next few months, we will depend on our community to help us figure out how the space works best, with an eye on a larger, more involved renovation sometime in the future.
We'll be scheduling opportunities to get concrete feedback from you about what works and what doesn't work and to find out more about what your needs are.
Come see our new space when we re-open on Feb. 14 with our expanded hours (Tuesday through Friday, 10am to 10 pm, and Saturday/Sunday, 12pm to 8pm). You can also experience guided tours, equipment demos, free classes and more, at our Open House on Feb. 25.
