Thank You, City Council!

May 19, 2017

This week, Portland City Council passed an amendment to reverse the 5% cut to Open Signal's budget. While not a huge amount of money to some, this effort was a historic move for our organization: it's the first time in seven years that we haven't received a budget cut. Consistent budget reductions year after year have caused us to do more with less in order to provide the basic services that the growing Open Signal community needs.

A huge thanks to Commissioner Nick Fish for spearheading this process and recognizing our work in the community, on top of his leadership for arts organizations around the city. Another big thanks to Commissioner Eudaly for her support of the amendment, and her voice for the artists and business owners in this city.

Thank you to Mayor Wheeler, Commissioner Fritz and Commissioner Saltzman for recognizing our equity agenda and supporting our work to provide quality service to the city of Portland.

And thank you to the dozens of community producers, students and staff who shared their experiences at the budget hearings, helping us tell the story of our organization. Here's to continuing to amplify the voices of all Portlanders!
