We're Open!

February 14, 2017

After six long weeks of renovation, we're now open to the public, with our regular hours:

Tuesday - Friday 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.*
Saturday - Sunday Noon - 8 p.m.
Monday Closed

*Equipment check-out currently available only between 2 and 10 p.m.

We hope you enjoy the brighter and more open feel of our lobby space. We ripped up the carpet, entirely replaced the flooring, painted the walls, removed our giant front desk, added a brand-new classroom space and pulled film off the windows to let the light in. We tried to create a blank slate, so you can let us know how to build it out.

We also kept our renovation schedule on a very tight timeline in order to keep the space open to the public as long as possible, which means there are still few loose ends.

Fortunately, here are a few updates that you can look forward to:

  • Electric and network are still in progress, but we hope to finish early in the week of February 27. Our electrical work includes new light fixtures. We think the crazy-fast network speed we're going to get will be worth the wait.
  • Furniture will be here soon. A couch for the lobby will be delivered on Friday, February 24 and a stack of black all-purpose chairs will arrive on Monday, February 27.
  • We are aware that sound is an issue in the lobby and we're working on it.
  • We should be able to move the desks and computers into the Edit Suites, which are now called Workspaces, the week of February 27. Workspace 1 is going to be the Animation Station.
  • A vending machine is on the list of to-dos. We are hoping to have one that we can add things to ourselves. Snacks, flash drives, etc. This will take a little while, but we're working on it.

Thanks for your patience while we work out these last pieces.

We're a work in progress, and we want you to tell us how to make the space feel like home. Please make sure to use the prompts on the wall to tell us your thoughts about the space renovations. We've been carefully reading and responding to the comments left so far, so please keep them coming.

And thanks to Portland City Commissioner Chloe Eudaly (second from left, above), who came by to help us break in the space!
