The Future of Media is Youth: Listening Session
- Cost: Free
- Capacity: 25
An open invitation to young creatives who are curious about journalism, media creation and storytelling!
Are you a young person who’s curious about storytelling, journalism, video, or content creation (or know one)?
You’re invited to Open Signal’s Youth Listening Session, a space for youth ages 14–18 to share their voices and help shape our upcoming Youth Media Collective program.
This session is a space for young people to share:
- What stories matter to them
- What kind of media they want to make (journalism, video, editing, cinematography, content creation, and more)
- How they like to learn and collaborate
- What makes a creative space feel welcoming, supportive, and fun
Parents, caregivers, and other supportive adults are welcome to attend, though the listening portion will be youth-only so young people can speak freely and comfortably.
No experience required. Pizza will be provided! Register here.
About the Youth Media Collective
The Youth Media Listening Session kicks off our next program, the Youth Media Collective, a free, 6-month collaborative for youth ages 14–18 to explore storytelling, journalism, and media production in a supportive, youth-centered environment. Participants build hands-on skills, produce original story ideas, and shape the program together through creativity and care for community. Each session offers food, public transit tickets, and mentorship as part of the experience. The next Collective runs March 4th – July 29th.
Interested in applying for the Collective? Email brittney@opensignalpdx.org by February 23rd to apply or ask questions.
