Open Signal Microcinema is a monthly screening series highlighting creative voices in our communities.
This month's Microcinema is a screening of the atmospheric, meditative work of Jason Pappariella. Jason is a visiting artist and will be in person for a Q&A following the screening.
‘places in pieces vol. 4’ is a non-narrative, place-based meditation, following the flight of a moth fluttering about the Caucasus region, from the Baltics to the Balkans.
With a curiosity for the ordinary, places in pieces gives its attention to the discarded, disregarded and unseen, and focuses on quiet, contemplative moments. The film score, by Adam Parks (Lighting White Bison), is similarly composed of field recordings, found material and incidental improvisations.
Jason has been exhibiting films, photos, and videos since the early 2000s at venues throughout North America and Europe, and has completed projects that have taken him across the globe. These projects have mostly been observational, non-narrative, and atmospheric, while communing with many different environments & landscapes, and interacting with many different people & non-human animals.
Please join us in welcoming Jason to Portland as he tours with this new work for an afternoon screening on Monday, June 1st.
