Breaking into Professional Editing w/ Lucky Day
- Cost: Free
- Capacity: 30
This presentation spotlights the Assistant Editor role as a key entry point into the industry, covering essential skills such as file organization, media management, sourcing footage and music, understanding stock libraries, tracking assets, and preparing deliverables.
Open Signal and Lucky Day are teaming up to offer an inside look at what it takes to build a career in professional post-production.
Designed for emerging editors who have already completed foundational coursework and are ready for the next step, this free knowledge-share is built to bridge the gap between the classroom and the cutting room.
Working professionals from Lucky Day will provide you with a practical overview of the full post-production process from creative kickoff through offline edit, picture lock, finishing, and final delivery.
Beyond workflow and technical knowledge, this presentation will emphasize the soft skills that make great collaborators: communication, professionalism, anticipation, discretion, and knowing how to “read the room.” Participants will also learn industry terminology, studio etiquette, booking and hold practices, and what to expect when working with editors, producers, creatives, and clients.
This is an opportunity to learn from professionals who do this work every day, ask candid questions, and gain the insight needed to confidently step into Portland’s post-production community. Whether your goal is to become an Assistant Editor, build your freelance career, or better understand how commercial editorial works, this workshop will give you practical tools, real-world perspective, and a clearer path forward.
